The X3, part of BMW’s refreshed car lineup, may have received its facelift later than its competitors, but does it measure up to them?

Aside from its eye-catching and refreshed appearance, what caught my attention was the exclusive Brooklyn Grey colour option. Not only does it exude boldness and sportiness, but it also turns heads at every traffic signal. While the exterior changes are primarily cosmetic, it’s important to discuss the driving experience that BMW is known for and determine if the X3 still delivers.

What has changed?
At first glance, the 2022 BMW X3 showcases noticeable exterior changes. The wider front fascia now features a larger grille, which, although not as massive as its siblings, still bears the BMW SUV family resemblance. The grille is accentuated with silver accents instead of lustrous chrome, complemented by redesigned adaptive LED headlamps integrated with sleek J-shaped DRLs. Opting for the M Sport variant enhances the sporty appearance with an aggressive-looking bumper, vertical air intakes, and a piano black air damp in the centre.

Moving to the side, you’ll notice 20-inch wheels (optional for the first 50 customers) or standard 19-inch wheels for the rest. The M Sport variant features blacked-out window surrounds, roof rails, and sporty side skirts. At the rear, the X3 exhibits refreshed design elements such as bumpers, tail lamps, and operational pentagonal exhaust tips, adding to its distinctive appeal.

The interior also sees notable changes, with a layout similar to previous BMW models but with a slightly larger 12.3-inch infotainment screen. Optional wireless integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is available, though the wireless charging dock is an additional cost. Other interior highlights include gesture control for the infotainment system, carbon fibre and Alcantara-finished gear lever, optional park assist and panoramic sunroof, electronically adjustable front seats, rear climate control features, and reclining rear seats.

Should you consider the BMW X3?
Absolutely. The 2022 BMW X3 is priced at Rs 59.90 lakh for the base SportX variant, extending to Rs 65.90 lakh for the top-spec M Sport variant. In comparison to the Mercedes-Benz GLC, the X3 is more affordable by Rs 2 lakh for the base variant and Rs 1 lakh for the top-end variant. However, when compared to the Audi Q5, the X3 demands a premium of a few thousand to a lakh. Nevertheless, the pricing shouldn’t deter prospective buyers, as the X3 outshines its competitors on paper with its superior power and torque.

Beyond the numbers, the X3 excels in terms of refinement, ride quality, handling, comfort, and safety. While it may not stand out in any particular aspect, it also doesn’t have any major concerns that would discourage you from considering it in the premium mid-size SUV segment within this price range. With its overall package and enticing features, the BMW X3 proves to be a compelling option for discerning buyers seeking a premium SUV.
