Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), one of India’s leading automobile manufacturers, has achieved a historic milestone by surpassing 9 million units in domestic sales since its inception in 1996. This achievement marks a major chapter in Hyundai’s 30-year journey in the Indian automotive market.

In April 2025, Hyundai reported total sales of 60,774 units, with domestic sales accounting for 44,374 units and exports contributing 16,400 units. Reflecting its steadfast commitment to the “Make in India, Made for the World” vision, HMIL posted a strong 21.5% year-on-year (YoY) growth in export volumes for April 2025. Moreover, the company recorded a 16.2% growth in exports from January to April 2025 compared to the same period last year.

Hyundai’s growth momentum continues amidst market challenges

Commenting on the sales performance, Mr. Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor India, said,

“As we enter the 30th year of our operations in India on 6th May 2025, we are proud of our commitment to our country, that has led us to achieve the milestone of 9-million-unit sales in the Indian market since our inception in 1996. While the domestic market continues to face headwinds on account of various macro-economic factors, we continue to champion ‘Make in India, Made for the World’ emphasizing HMIL’s strong focus on exports. This has resulted in a robust 21.5% YoY growth in export volumes in April 2025 and 16.2% growth during January to April 2025 as compared to the same period in the previous year. Overall, we remain dedicated to enhancing value for our customers as we gear up to commence operations at our new plant at Talegaon in Q4 of this calendar year.”

The upcoming manufacturing plant at Talegaon, set to begin operations in Q4 2025, is expected to bolster Hyundai’s production capacity and strengthen its commitment to both domestic and international markets.
