Hyundai Motor India Foundation, the CSR arm of Hyundai Motor India Ltd., has achieved a major milestone by planting 5 lakh trees under its ambitious Hyundai IONIQ Forest initiative. The project, launched on World Environment Day 2025, aims to transform Pune’s green landscape by planting 10 lakh trees across 90.5 acres at Dange Chowk, Pimpri-Chinchwad, making it one of the largest urban afforestation drives in Maharashtra.

The IONIQ Forest uses the Miyawaki method, a proven Japanese technique for developing dense, fast-growing forests with native species. This project incorporates 41 indigenous tree species, enhancing biodiversity and restoring natural habitats for birds, insects, and other wildlife.

The plantation event was attended by key dignitaries, including Shri Sunil Shelke, Hon’ble Member of Legislative Assembly, Maval Constituency; Shri Vishwajit Shrirang Barne; Dr. Ratikant Navtake, Assistant Commissioner, Department of Animal Husbandry, Pune; along with senior Hyundai officials — Mr. Jeongick Lee, Mr. Shyamkumar Singh, and Mr. Puneet Anand.

Driving Green Growth and Community Empowerment :- The IONIQ Forest is projected to absorb 63,000 tons of CO₂ over the next five years, making a measurable impact on climate resilience. Beyond environmental benefits, the initiative has generated sustainable livelihoods for over 100 members from local tribal communities, promoting inclusive growth.

The project also focuses on ecosystem restoration, rainwater harvesting, check dam construction, and sustainable land use, strengthening both the environment and the local economy.

Leadership Voices :- Shri Sunil Shelke praised the initiative, stating, “This is a strong example of corporate responsibility combined with environmental stewardship. I encourage more such partnerships for a sustainable future.”

Mr. Puneet Anand, AVP & Vertical Head – Corporate Affairs, Corporate Communication & Social, HMIL, added, “Through the IONIQ Forest, Hyundai is not just planting trees — we’re nurturing a greener, more sustainable India. Our vision spans across Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra, contributing to both environmental and community development.”

Once fully developed, the forest will be open to schools and local communities for educational tours and awareness programs, inspiring future generations to embrace sustainability.
