Kia has officially pulled the covers off the all-new Kia EV2, marking the brand’s smallest born-electric vehicle to date. The compact electric crossover made its global debut at the Brussels Motor Show, strengthening Kia’s rapidly expanding EV portfolio.

Positioned below the EV3 and EV5, the EV2 becomes the sixth all-electric model in Kia’s global EV lineup and is designed to target urban buyers looking for a compact, practical and affordable electric SUV. Internationally, it goes against rivals like the Renault 4 and the upcoming Volkswagen ID Cross.

Kia EV2: Compact size, big electric ambitions

Built on the E-GMP electric platform, the Kia EV2 combines compact exterior dimensions with a spacious cabin layout. With a length of 4,060mm, width of 1,800mm, and a 2,565mm wheelbase, the EV2 strikes a balance between city-friendly proportions and usable interior space.

Despite being Kia’s smallest EV, the EV2 is engineered to deliver a mature driving experience with modern features, long driving range options and advanced safety technology.

Kia EV2 Exterior Design

The EV2 borrows its visual identity from Kia’s larger electric SUVs. The familiar ‘tiger face’ design has been reinterpreted with a cleaner, more upright look. Vertically stacked split headlamps give the front end a distinctive appearance, while extensive body cladding adds a rugged, crossover-like character.

At the rear, the tail-lamps blend seamlessly into the wheel-arch cladding, a design cue reminiscent of the Syros sold in India. The overall styling avoids aggressive creases, opting instead for smooth surfaces and a boxy silhouette that prioritises cabin space.

Buyers can choose from 16-inch to 18-inch wheels on standard variants, while the sportier GT Line trim stands out with unique bumpers and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Kia EV2 Interior and Features

Inside, the Kia EV2 feels instantly familiar, especially for those who have seen Kia’s newer global interiors. The dashboard layout mirrors the Syros, featuring a triple-screen setup that includes:

  • 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
  • 5.3-inch climate control display
  • 12.3-inch central touchscreen

The EV2 debuts a ‘lite’ version of Kia’s infotainment system, aimed at reducing costs while still supporting over-the-air (OTA) updates. Physical buttons remain generously placed on the steering wheel and centre console, ensuring ease of use while driving.

Interestingly, Kia offers the EV2 in both 4-seat and 5-seat configurations.

  • The 4-seater gets two independent reclining rear seats that slide forward, expanding boot capacity to 403 litres.
  • The 5-seater offers 362 litres of luggage space.

Both versions include a 15-litre front trunk (frunk) for additional storage.

Safety and Tech

The feature list on the Kia EV2 is impressive for its size. Key highlights include:

  • Digital Key 2.0
  • Harman Kardon premium sound system
  • Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability
  • Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) compatibility
  • Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

These features position the EV2 as a highly tech-focused offering in the compact EV segment.

Kia EV2 Battery, Range and Performance

The Kia EV2 will be available with two battery options, catering to different driving needs:

  • 42.2kWh LFP battery with a WLTP range of 317km
  • 61.0kWh NMC battery offering up to 448km WLTP range

Standard Range variants use a 147hp front-mounted electric motor, while Long Range models feature a 136hp motor, optimised for efficiency.

Charging is handled by a 400V electrical system. While Kia has not disclosed peak charging speeds, the brand confirms that 10–80 percent DC fast charging takes 30 minutes for both battery options. Buyers can also choose between an 11kW or 22kW AC charger.

What the Kia EV2 means for the global EV market?

With the EV2, Kia is clearly targeting mass-market EV buyers who want a compact footprint without sacrificing range, technology or safety. Its flexible seating options, competitive driving range and modern design make it a strong contender in the entry-level electric SUV space.

While an India launch has not yet been confirmed, the EV2’s design, size and interior similarities to India-market models suggest strong potential for future localisation.

The Kia EV2 proves that small electric cars don’t have to feel basic. With its bold styling, practical interior, long-range battery options and advanced features, Kia’s smallest EV yet packs impressive value. As global demand for compact EVs continues to grow, the EV2 is well-positioned to become a key player in Kia’s electric journey.
