BMW has officially launched the i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB) in India at an introductory price of ₹79.60 lakh (ex-showroom), expanding the German luxury carmaker’s electric vehicle portfolio in the country. The new electric sedan is locally assembled at BMW Group’s Chennai facility, making it the brand’s first locally produced electric sedan in India. Deliveries have already commenced.

The BMW i5 LWB is offered in a single eDrive35L M Sport variant. BMW had opened bookings for the electric sedan in August, while the limited-run First Edition, restricted to just 99 units, was sold out even before the official launch.

BMW i5 LWB: BATTERY AND RANGE

Powering the BMW i5 LWB is an 81.6kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor producing 268hp and 410Nm of torque. The luxury EV has a claimed MIDC range of up to 669km, making it one of the more range-focused offerings in its segment.

The i5 LWB can accelerate from 0–100kmph in 6.7 seconds and has a top speed of 193kmph. It supports DC fast charging at up to 160kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 33 minutes.

LONG Wheelbase and Premium Features

The BMW i5 LWB measures up to its luxury-sedan positioning with a 3,105mm wheelbase, providing additional space for rear passengers. It also gets rear-axle air suspension, enhancing ride comfort and stability.

Other highlights include a panoramic glass roof, four-zone automatic climate control, ventilated front seats and a premium 17-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system.

Inside the cabin, the i5 LWB features BMW’s curved display setup, comprising a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The sedan also comes equipped with a range of connected and driver-assistance technologies.
