Jaguar has officially revealed the production-spec Type 01, marking a dramatic new chapter for the British luxury carmaker. Previewed by the Type 00 concept, the Type 01 is a four-door electric GT that combines an unconventional design with a three-motor powertrain producing more than 1,000 bhp.

The new model represents a significant departure from Jaguar’s traditionally elegant design language. Instead, the Type 01 embraces a much more dramatic appearance, with sharp surfaces, an imposing stance and several design elements carried over from the concept car.

Built on Jaguar’s new Electric Architecture (JEA), the Type 01 has been engineered around its distinctive proportions and electric powertrain. International deliveries are scheduled to begin around mid-2027, with India expected to follow a few months later.
Jaguar Type 01: Exterior Design
The Type 01 is one of the most visually distinctive Jaguars to date. Its front end features a new ‘strikethrough’ design element that gives the electric car a grille-like appearance, despite there being no conventional engine underneath the bonnet.

The front also features four-line daytime running lights and Jaguar’s slimmest-ever headlamps. Active shutters lower down help manage cooling requirements.

Despite its bold, upright front profile, Jaguar claims the Type 01 is its most aerodynamic model yet, with a drag coefficient of 0.23. Active aerodynamic elements and carefully shaped bodywork contribute to the car’s efficiency.

The long bonnet and 3.2-metre wheelbase give the Type 01 a distinctive, front-heavy stance. It rides on huge 23-inch wheels, while the charging ports are positioned on both sides of the car for added convenience.

One of the more unusual elements is Jaguar’s so-called ‘impossible panel’ at the rear. The large aluminium body panel creates pronounced rear shoulders and required significant engineering work to manufacture as a single piece.

At the back, the strikethrough treatment continues across almost the entire width. The tail-lights are concealed within this surface and remain largely invisible when the car is switched off.

Another major departure is the absence of a conventional rear windscreen. Instead, a camera-based digital rear-view mirror provides the driver with the view behind the car.
Jaguar Type 01 Interior and Features
The dramatic exterior design has influenced the cabin as well. The Type 01 gets a minimalist four-seat interior with a prominent central spine separating the cabin into distinct areas.

A large 24-inch display combines the instrument cluster and infotainment functions. The screen is divided to provide driver-focused information as well as functions for the front passenger.

The front seats offer heating, ventilation and massage functions, while the cabin uses brass-finished elements and design details inspired by the exterior.

However, the low roofline and aggressive proportions come with some compromises. Rear occupants sit in a relatively enclosed environment, while the low roof and small side windows limit the sense of openness.

The Type 01 has 450 litres of boot space, with additional storage underneath the boot floor.
Jaguar Type 01 Powertrain and Performance
The Type 01 is powered by a three-motor electric drivetrain, comprising two motors at the rear and one at the front.

Together, the motors produce:
▪️ 1,030 bhp
▪️ 1,365 Nm
▪️ Three-motor all-wheel-drive system
▪️ 0–100 kmph in 3.2 seconds
▪️ 100–180 kmph in a claimed 4.0 seconds
Despite weighing approximately 2.7 tonnes, the Type 01 can accelerate from 0–100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds.

Jaguar has also equipped the electric GT with multiple drive modes and torque-vectoring technology. Ride and handling are managed by switchable air suspension and twin-valve active dampers.

Rear-wheel steering further improves manoeuvrability, giving the Type 01 an 11.5-metre wall-to-wall turning circle.
Jaguar Type 01 Battery, Range and Charging
Powering the three electric motors is a 120kWh NMC battery pack, of which 118kWh is usable.

Jaguar claims a WLTP range of up to 720km, putting the Type 01 among the longer-range electric GTs in its segment.
The car uses an 850-volt electrical architecture and supports high-speed DC charging. On a 350kW DC charger, Jaguar claims that 321km of range can be added in approximately 13 minutes.

A 10–80 percent charging session takes around 22 minutes under suitable conditions.
The split battery architecture also helps Jaguar package the low-slung cabin while creating additional footwell space for rear passengers. The Type 01 gets two AC charging ports, one on each side of the vehicle.
Jaguar Type 01 India Launch and Expected Price
Jaguar is expected to begin international deliveries of the Type 01 around mid-2027. India is expected to receive the electric GT a few months after its international market introduction.

In international markets, prices are expected to start at around £120,000. For India, the Type 01 is expected to be positioned at approximately ₹2 crore, although the final India price will only be confirmed closer to launch.

The Type 01 will sit in a very different space from Jaguar’s previous luxury flagships. Its combination of extreme performance, long-range electric capability and unconventional styling is intended to give the brand a new identity as it moves further into the premium electric-car market.
The New Jaguar Direction
The Type 01 is more than just a new electric model for Jaguar. It signals a fundamental change in how the brand wants to present itself.

Rather than relying heavily on traditional British luxury design, Jaguar has opted for a much more experimental approach. The production Type 01 retains much of the visual drama of the Type 00 concept while introducing the engineering required for a high-performance four-door GT.
With 1,030 bhp, 1,365 Nm, a 120kWh battery and up to 720km of claimed WLTP range, the Type 01 certainly has the numbers to make an impression.

The bigger question is whether Jaguar’s radical new design direction will resonate with luxury-car buyers when the Type 01 reaches showrooms in 2027.
