Renault India has launched the new Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 in India, expanding its SUV lineup with an electrified powertrain focused on fuel efficiency and everyday usability. Prices start at ₹16.99 lakh and go up to ₹19.49 lakh (ex-showroom), with three variants on offer: Evolution, Techno and Emotion. Bookings are open for ₹21,000, while deliveries are scheduled to begin on 6 November.

The highlight is its claimed 29 kmpl ARAI fuel efficiency, alongside Renault’s claim that up to 80 per cent of city driving can be completed in electric mode. The hybrid system does not require external charging, allowing owners to refuel at conventional petrol stations while benefiting from electric assistance in urban conditions.

POWERTRAIN AND PERFORMANCE
The Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 uses a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 1.4 kWh hybrid battery and two electric motors. The system produces a combined output of 160 PS, with the petrol engine contributing 110 PS and the electric motor rated at 50 PS. Renault quotes combined torque figures of 175 Nm, while the electric motor delivers a peak torque of 208 Nm. The SUV is claimed to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 9.6 seconds.
The larger petrol engine and hybrid assistance are designed to deliver smoother, more efficient driving, particularly in stop-and-go traffic. With no diesel option in the new-generation Duster range, the Strong Hybrid becomes Renault’s alternative for buyers seeking lower fuel consumption without relying on plug-in charging.
FEATURES AND EQUIPMENT
The hybrid variant also brings several notable features and updates. These include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, Google built-in connectivity, a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate and ventilated front seats. Safety and driver assistance equipment includes a 360-degree camera, tyre-pressure monitoring system, six airbags and Level 2 ADAS.

Renault has also introduced frequency-dependent dampers for improved ride comfort, an illuminated front grille and Dune Brown leatherette upholstery.

With its claimed 29 kmpl efficiency, substantial electric-mode capability and feature-rich cabin, the Renault Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 enters a competitive segment that includes the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Hybrid, Maruti Suzuki Victoris Hybrid and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Its real-world efficiency and driving experience will be key to determining how convincingly it can stand apart from these established hybrid SUVs.
