A motorcycle isn’t just metal and rubber. Sometimes it’s personality, presence, and a little bit of rebellion. The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 falls exactly into that category unapologetic, bold, and clearly not built to please everyone. And maybe that’s why it feels special.
I’ve spent years riding a Classic 500 Desert Storm through Pune traffic, highway escapes to Goa and Lonavla, and random mid-week therapy rides. So when I got the keys to the Shotgun 650, curiosity wasn’t a choice it was instinct.
Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 – dark, raw, and ready for the streets

Presence on wheels the bike that stares back
Even at standstill, the Shotgun 650 demands attention like a bouncer at a nightclub door. Short bobber rear, chopped fender, muscular tank and chunky wheels it has a stance that says “look twice.” And trust me, people do.
At red lights, two wheelers slow down next to you. Pedestrians stare. Café guys walk over with questions.
Not every bike does that this one does without even revving.

Performance & Engine familiar heart, refined pulse
Under that metal sits the well-known 648cc RE parallel twin making 47 bhp & 52 Nm. On paper it doesn’t look wild. On road? It’s butter.
Smooth power delivery, strong mid-range pull, and enough torque to flex without drama. It won’t rip your arms off, but it will make you grin every single time you twist the throttle.
0–100 km/h in under 7 seconds is respectable for a 240-kg machine.
Mileage? 23–26 kmpl in mixed riding. Fair trade for presence + punch.
Riding Posture & Comfort – Love it or learn it
This is where the bike shows attitude.
Mid set pegs, low bars and slightly forward reach not uncomfortable, just different. Coming from a Classic, it took a couple of rides for my body to sync. Once it clicked though, the posture felt intentional. Purpose-built. Almost café-racer meets bobber.
Seat height: 795 mm accessible for most riders, but weight at low speed may test beginners.
Pillion seat? Non-existent. This is a solo story machine.

Handling & Ride Quality
Despite the bulk, the Shotgun surprised me. Shorter wheelbase makes it agile and playful around curves, far more flickable than it looks. Lean confidently, feel the weight settle, and that twin pushes you out with a deep note.
But here’s the honest part — suspension is firm, and Pune potholes remind you of it instantly. Ground clearance 140 mm, so aggressive speed breakers = heart attack moments.
This isn’t your office commute warrior.
This is Sunday morning coffee + highway sunrise partner.
Brakes, Feel & Control
320 mm front + 300 mm rear discs with ABS do their job well. Feedback is progressive, confidence builds naturally, though sharp bite lovers may want aftermarket pads later.
Instrument Cluster & Console: Classic analog feel with modern touch

Verdict A Bike Built for Heart, not excel sheets
If you want practicality and comfort for daily chaos, Meteor or Interceptor might suit you better.
But if you crave character, presence, and a bike that makes every ride feel like a scene, the Shotgun 650 hits differently.
It asks for compromises firm ride, solo mindset, careful parking.
In return, it gives soul.
Because some motorcycles aren’t bought for reasons.
They’re bought because something inside you whispers “This is the one.”
