Electric cars are becoming common now but the Volvo C40 Recharge doesn’t try to be just another EV. It carries the calmness Volvo is known for, but with a stylish twist that makes you look twice. A sloping coupe roofline, whisper-silent power delivery, and a cabin built from recycled materials this EV has personality.
We spent a few days with it in Pune, and it didn’t take long to realise that this isn’t a car made for attention… yet it gets plenty anyway.

A calm face with confidence

Signature Thor’s Hammer DRLs and a clean grille unmistakably Volvo.

Coupe with character

If the XC40 Recharge was Volvo’s sensible EV, the C40 Recharge is its stylish sibling with flair. From the front it looks familiar clean design, sharp lights but move to the side and the roofline swoops down like a coupe.
That single design element does the magic. It instantly separates the C40 from every upright EV SUV on the road. The rear gets split spoilers, wraparound taillamps and a sporty stance that feels fresh in a segment usually ruled by function-first designs.

Where EV meets coupe art

The sloping roof defines its personality bold yet elegant.

Inside the scandinavian cocoon

Step inside and the Scandinavian calm takes over. No leather anywhere the cabin is vegan, recycled and thoughtfully built. Materials feel premium, textures are soothing and the design is clean without clutter.
The panoramic glass roof brightens everything, though we wished for a sunblind on hot afternoons. The infotainment runs Google’s Android Automotive Maps, Assistant, connectivity all smooth and intuitive.

Front seats are plush and supportive. Rear passengers however might notice tighter headroom due to that coupe style, although legroom stays generous.

Minimalism that doesn’t shout

Steering commands, digital cluster, and Google powered infotainment.

Silent until you press the pedal

There’s no start button just sit, buckle up, and drive.
402 bhp & 660 Nm turn this calm EV into a rocket when you want. 0–100 km/h in 4.7 seconds makes overtakes effortless tap, and you’re gone. On highways it glides silently, absorbing bumps with maturity. Steering is light, but confidence stays intact even when you push.

This dual personality quiet at low speed, savage when provoked makes it addictive.

Range & Charging That Reduces Anxiety

The C40 claims up to 530 km (WLTP), and we comfortably saw 430–450 km in city + weekend runs, which is excellent.
Fast charging?

  • 150 kW DC → 10-80% in ~28 minutes
  • Home wallbox overnight = full next morning

Charging infra in Pune is growing fast, and this EV fits right into that ecosystem.

Not Perfect, But Desirable

Rear visibility suffers due to the coupe rear glass, and tall passengers may want slightly more headroom. Boot isn’t the largest in segment either but this car isn’t built for numbers. It’s built for experience.

Volvo has prioritised style and feel and honestly, it pays off.

Safety Classic Volvo Strength

7 airbags, ADAS suite, lane keep, adaptive cruise, collision avoidance, 360 camera safety is never optional here.
Volvo simply does not compromise on protection.
