Ducati has officially launched the Desmo450 MX in India, marking the brand’s first-ever dedicated motocross motorcycle. The track only machine arrives nearly a year after its global debut and is priced at ₹17.24 lakh (ex-showroom).

Designed purely for competitive off-road racing, the Ducati Desmo450 MX introduces advanced engineering and electronics to the motocross segment while carrying Ducati’s racing DNA into dirt-bike territory.

FIRST MOTOCROSS BIKE FROM DUCATI

The Desmo450 MX represents a major milestone for Ducati as it expands beyond road going superbikes and adventure motorcycles into the professional motocross category. Unlike conventional Ducati motorcycles, the Desmo450 MX is strictly a track-only motorcycle, meaning it is not road legal and comes without headlights, mirrors, or other street equipment.

The motorcycle is built around a lightweight aluminium perimeter frame, designed with minimal weld points to improve structural rigidity while reducing overall weight. As a result, the bike has a wet weight of just 104.8 kg (excluding fuel), making it one of the lightest machines in its class.

POWERFUL DESMODROMIC SINGLE-CYLINDER ENGINE

At the heart of the Desmo450 MX is a 449.6cc single cylinder liquid cooled engine, featuring Ducati’s signature Desmodromic valve system. The engine produces 63.5hp and 53.5 Nm of torque, with a high rev limit of 11,900 rpm.

This high-performance setup is paired with advanced engine management designed specifically for motocross racing conditions. The engine’s strong power output and lightweight chassis promise aggressive acceleration and precise throttle control on demanding off-road tracks.

ADVANCED SUSPENSION AND ELECTRONICS

The Ducati Desmo450 MX comes equipped with fully adjustable Showa suspension units, offering 310 mm of travel at the front and 301 mm at the rear. This setup ensures excellent impact absorption and control during jumps, landings, and rough terrain riding.

Braking duties are handled by high performance Brembo components, ensuring strong stopping power and reliability during competitive riding.

Ducati has also integrated a comprehensive electronics package for a motocross bike. Features include traction control, launch control, engine brake control, and two selectable riding modes. Riders can fine-tune these settings via the X-Link mobile application, which connects to the bike through WiFi.

BUILT FOR PROFESSIONAL OFF-ROAD RACING

As a purpose-built motocross motorcycle, the Desmo450 MX requires maintenance schedules similar to professional race machines. Ducati recommends oil changes every 15 hours, while piston replacements and valve clearance checks are suggested every 45 hours of riding.

In India, the Ducati Desmo450 MX joins a small group of premium motocross bikes officially available in the market, including models such as the KTM 450 SX-F and the Kawasaki KX450.

With cutting-edge technology, lightweight construction, and Ducati’s iconic Desmodromic engineering, the Desmo450 MX marks a bold entry into the competitive motocross segment for the Italian manufacturer.
