Ferrari has officially entered the electric era with the unveiling of the all-new Ferrari Luce EV, the brand’s first-ever fully electric production car. Revealed in Rome, the Ferrari Luce represents one of the biggest transformations in the marque’s history, combining cutting-edge EV technology with the performance, emotion, and design philosophy Ferrari is globally known for.

The Ferrari Luce has been developed on a completely bespoke electric architecture and introduces a radically new approach for the Italian automaker. Ferrari says the Luce is not simply an “electric Ferrari,” but an entirely new kind of Ferrari designed to deliver high performance, versatility, comfort, and driver engagement through electrification.

At the heart of the Ferrari Luce are four independent electric motors, one powering each wheel. Together, the setup produces a staggering 1050bhp, making it one of the most powerful road-going Ferraris ever created. The electric drivetrain is paired with Ferrari’s advanced torque vectoring system, active suspension, and rear-wheel steering technology, all working together to maximise agility and handling precision.

Performance figures are equally dramatic. Ferrari claims the Luce can accelerate from 0-100kmph in just 2.5 seconds, while 0-200kmph comes up in 6.8 seconds. The EV also has a top speed exceeding 310kmph. A massive 122kWh lithium-ion battery pack based on an 800V electrical architecture powers the car and offers a claimed driving range of over 530km on a single charge. The battery supports ultra-fast charging speeds of up to 350kW.

The Ferrari Luce also introduces multiple driving modes through Ferrari’s new e-Manettino system. Drivers can switch between Range, Tour, and Performance modes, adjusting power delivery, traction characteristics, and energy regeneration depending on driving conditions. In Performance mode, the Luce unlocks its full 1050bhp capability, while Range mode prioritises efficiency and extends battery life.

Design-wise, the Ferrari Luce takes a completely fresh direction. The EV was designed in collaboration with LoveFrom, the creative collective founded by former Apple design chief Sir Jony Ive and renowned designer Marc Newson. The exterior features a minimalist and aerodynamic silhouette with floating front and rear aerodynamic wings, smooth uninterrupted body surfaces, and a futuristic glasshouse-inspired profile.

One of the standout design highlights is the inclusion of four doors and seating for five passengers, making the Luce the first Ferrari to offer such practicality in a fully electric format. The car also gets suicide-style rear doors, transparent lighting elements, and the largest wheels ever fitted to a production Ferrari, 23-inch wheels at the front and 24-inch units at the rear.

Inside the cabin, Ferrari has blended digital innovation with tactile physical controls. The Luce features a 12.5-inch OLED instrument cluster, a movable 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, premium leather upholstery, recycled aluminium materials, and a high-end 21-speaker Ferrari Audio Signature sound system with 3000W output. Ferrari says the cabin has been engineered to provide the highest levels of comfort and refinement ever seen in a Ferrari road car.

Interestingly, Ferrari has also developed a unique sound experience for the Luce EV. Instead of using artificial sound generators, the brand has engineered a system that captures and amplifies authentic vibrations and frequencies generated by the electric motors and drivetrain components. This creates a signature sound profile designed to retain Ferrari’s emotional connection with drivers even in an electric future.

Aerodynamics have played a major role in the development of the Ferrari Luce. The EV achieves the lowest drag coefficient ever recorded on a Ferrari road car, thanks to advanced airflow management systems, active aerodynamic grilles, aerodynamic wheel designs, and active ride-height adjustments. Ferrari claims these innovations significantly improve efficiency without compromising high-speed stability or performance.

The Ferrari Luce is also packed with advanced driver assistance systems including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot detection, surround-view cameras, and driver monitoring technologies. Despite its futuristic tech-focused nature, Ferrari insists the Luce remains a true driver’s car at heart.

Orders for the Ferrari Luce EV are now officially open globally, with prices starting from €550,000, which roughly translates to Rs 6.01 crore before taxes and import duties.
