Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has been recognized as the ‘Automobile: Top Exporter’ for FY 2025-26 by the Mumbai Port Authority, reaffirming its position as one of India’s leading automotive exporters and strengthening the country’s role as a global vehicle manufacturing and export hub.

The prestigious recognition was awarded during the Business Conclave with Partners, celebrating SAVWIPL’s remarkable achievement of exporting more than 40,000 vehicles through Mumbai Port during FY 2025-26. The award highlights the company’s sustained contribution to India’s automotive export ecosystem and aligns with its long-term vision of “Make in India, for India and the World.”

Mumbai Port Remains Strategic Export Gateway

The award was received on behalf of SAVWIPL by Amit Madan, Vice President – Logistics Region India, and presented by Dr. M. Angamuthu, Chairperson of Mumbai Port Authority, along with Shri Adesh Titarmare, Deputy Chairperson of Mumbai Port Authority.

Mumbai Port continues to play a critical role in SAVWIPL’s export operations, providing efficient access to international markets across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and North America. The port has become a strategic gateway supporting the Volkswagen Group’s international growth ambitions from India.

Consecutive Recognition Highlights Export Excellence

This latest achievement follows SAVWIPL’s earlier recognition as the ‘Top Exporter 2023-24’ by the Mumbai Port Authority, underscoring the company’s consistent export performance over the years.

The company has exported more than 725,000 India-manufactured vehicles to over 40 countries, making India an increasingly important manufacturing and export base for the Volkswagen Group. The accomplishment reflects the success of the Indian government’s Make in India initiative and the growing global acceptance of vehicles produced in the country.

India Emerging as a Global Export Hub for Volkswagen Group

Commenting on the recognition, Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited, said the award validates the company’s strong export momentum and operational excellence.

According to Arora, India’s manufacturing ecosystem has evolved into a globally competitive export base for the Group, supported by high-quality production standards, supply chain efficiency, and localization efforts. He emphasized the company’s commitment to further strengthening India’s role within the Volkswagen Group’s worldwide production and supply network.

Growing Export Portfolio Expands Global Reach

SAVWIPL currently exports several popular made-in-India models, including:

  • Volkswagen Taigun
  • Volkswagen Virtus
  • Škoda Kushaq
  • Škoda Slavia

Beyond exporting fully built vehicles, the company is also expanding its international footprint through the export of automotive parts and components. These exports support local assembly operations in various international markets while enhancing India’s importance in the Group’s global industrial strategy.

Recent Entry into Sri Lanka Strengthens Regional Expansion

The company’s export momentum is also supporting its regional growth ambitions. SAVWIPL recently entered the Sri Lankan automotive market, signaling its intent to explore new opportunities across emerging economies.

As global demand for Indian-manufactured vehicles continues to rise, the company plans to identify additional export destinations while adapting to evolving customer preferences, regulatory requirements, and market dynamics.

SAVWIPL’s Growing Manufacturing Strength in India

Headquartered in Pune, SAVWIPL manages the Indian operations of six Volkswagen Group brands:

  • Škoda
  • Volkswagen
  • Audi
  • Bentley
  • Lamborghini
  • Porsche

The company operates manufacturing facilities at Chakan, Pune, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad), with a combined annual production capacity of 315,000 units.

In 2025, SAVWIPL crossed a major milestone by producing over 2 million vehicles locally in India. Its locally manufactured models, including the newly launched Škoda Kylaq, Kushaq, Slavia, Volkswagen Taigun, and Virtus, have collectively surpassed 600,000 units in sales and production volumes.

The latest recognition from the Mumbai Port Authority further strengthens SAVWIPL’s reputation as a key contributor to India’s automotive export success story. With continued investments in manufacturing, localization, exports, and sustainable mobility solutions, the company remains well-positioned to accelerate India’s emergence as a global automotive production and export powerhouse.
