The Maruti Suzuki Victoris Strong Hybrid isn’t chasing outright performance. Instead, it focuses on premium styling, everyday comfort, impressive technology and fuel efficiency that genuinely makes a difference.

Maruti Suzuki has built its reputation on creating cars that simply work for Indian buyers. Reliability, practicality and low running costs have always been its biggest strengths. With the new Victoris Strong Hybrid, however, the brand has taken a noticeable step forward, blending those familiar virtues with a more premium design language, a technology-rich cabin and a sophisticated hybrid powertrain.

After spending time with the Victoris Strong Hybrid ZXi+ in its striking Eternal Blue dual-tone finish, it becomes evident that this isn’t an SUV trying to rewrite the segment rulebook. Instead, it refines the formula, creating a package that’s designed to make everyday driving more comfortable, economical and enjoyable.

A FRESH IDENTITY

The Victoris immediately stands apart from Maruti Suzuki’s traditional styling language. While it shares its mechanicals with its Nexa sibling, the exterior has been given a distinct identity.

The front fascia is clean and contemporary, featuring sleek LED headlamps connected by sharp daytime running lamps that give the SUV a confident stance. Circular LED fog lamps are neatly integrated into the bumper, while the sculpted bonnet and wide grille add visual width.

From the side, the Victoris adopts a flowing silhouette with pronounced character lines that create a sense of motion even while stationary. The 17-inch alloy wheels complement the proportions well, while the contrasting black roof adds a premium touch. At the rear, the full-width LED light bar ties everything together, lending the SUV a modern and distinctive road presence.

A CABIN THAT FINALLY FEELS PREMIUM

Step inside and you’ll notice one of the Victoris’ biggest strengths.

The Strong Hybrid variant receives an all-black interior that immediately feels sophisticated and easier to maintain than lighter upholstery. The layered dashboard design, contrast stitching, and leatherette trim create a cabin that feels significantly more premium than previous Maruti Suzuki offerings.

Technology has also received a substantial upgrade.

A crisp 26.03 cm fully digital instrument cluster replaces the conventional layout, while the 10.1-inch infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, connected car technology, OTA updates, Alexa integration, navigation and an onboard voice assistant.

One of the standout features is the Infinity premium eight-speaker audio system complete with a centre speaker, subwoofer and Dolby Atmos support. Whether you’re listening to your favourite playlist during a highway drive or navigating city traffic with podcasts playing, the sound quality is genuinely impressive.

Comfort has also been prioritised with ventilated front seats, a powered driver’s seat, panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting and excellent ergonomics that make long journeys feel effortless.

REAR SEAT PRACTICALITY

The Victoris continues to impress in the second row.

With the driver’s seat adjusted to my driving position, knee room remains generous, although taller occupants may find legroom just about adequate. The sloping roofline slightly affects headroom, but it is unlikely to trouble average-sized passengers.

Rear occupants also benefit from dedicated AC vents, dual USB Type-C charging ports, a centre armrest with cup holders and generous storage spaces within the doors.

The boot remains practical enough for everyday family duties, comfortably accommodating large suitcases alongside multiple cabin bags, making weekend getaways and airport runs easy.

STRONG HYBRID THAT MAKES EVERYDAY SENSE

The Victoris Strong Hybrid pairs Maruti Suzuki’s 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to create a powertrain that’s built around efficiency rather than outright performance.

On paper, the numbers don’t immediately stand out. On the road, however, they tell a very different story.

Around town, electric assistance fills in torque beautifully, making stop-and-go traffic feel remarkably effortless. Pulling away from traffic lights, navigating congested streets and making everyday overtakes require very little effort. While it never feels particularly quick, it never leaves you wanting significantly more performance for daily driving.

Cold starts are slightly more noticeable than the mild-hybrid petrol version, but once the engine reaches operating temperature, refinement improves considerably. Transitions between electric and petrol power are smooth, while highway cruising remains relaxed and composed.

COMFORTABLE WITHOUT FORGETTING CONFIDENCE

The Victoris has clearly been tuned with comfort in mind.

The steering remains light at city speeds, making parking and tight U-turns extremely easy. As speeds increase, it gains sufficient weight to inspire confidence without becoming overly heavy.

The suspension strikes a balanced compromise between comfort and stability. Everyday road imperfections are absorbed confidently, although sharper potholes can still be felt inside the cabin. On highways, however, the SUV feels reassuringly planted and composed.

It isn’t an SUV that encourages enthusiastic cornering, but that’s never been its intention. Instead, it rewards smooth driving with predictable handling and relaxed long-distance cruising.

REAL-WORLD EFFICIENCY THAT IMPRESSES

Fuel efficiency remains one of the Victoris Strong Hybrid’s strongest arguments.

We collected the SUV with a full tank displaying close to 790 kilometres of driving range. After spending time driving through both urban traffic and highways, the trip computer continued to indicate around 22 kmpl while still showing approximately 250 kilometres of range remaining.

The best part is that these figures were achieved without consciously driving for economy. The hybrid system simply manages power delivery intelligently, allowing drivers to enjoy excellent efficiency without constantly monitoring the throttle.

SAFETY FINALLY MATCHES EXPECTATIONS

Maruti Suzuki has also addressed one of the biggest expectations from modern SUV buyers.

The Victoris comes equipped with six airbags, a 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake, tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control and has secured a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating, making it one of the safest SUVs the company has produced for the Indian market.

VERDICT

The Maruti Suzuki Victoris Strong Hybrid isn’t trying to be the fastest or the most exciting SUV in its class.

Instead, it concentrates on the fundamentals that matter every single day. It combines premium styling with a well-appointed cabin, intuitive technology, refined hybrid performance, outstanding fuel efficiency and reassuring safety credentials into one cohesive package.

For buyers looking for a practical family SUV that’s comfortable, economical and genuinely easy to live with, the Victoris Strong Hybrid gets remarkably close to the ideal everyday companion. It may not set your pulse racing, but it will almost certainly make every journey easier, quieter and considerably more efficient.
