Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), one of India’s foremost premium carmakers, has reached a significant milestone in FY 2024-25. Revealing a clear shift in consumer preferences toward premium features and SUV dominance. According to Hyundai India’s latest sales report, SUVs accounted for 68.5% of Hyundai’s total domestic sales, a marked increase from 63.2% in the previous financial year. In simpler terms, two out of every three Hyundai cars sold in India was an SUV, confirming the automaker’s strong position in the segment.
In addition to SUV dominance, Hyundai also reported that over 53.2% of its vehicles sold in India came equipped with a sunroof, reflecting the Indian consumer’s growing appetite for premium features and aspirational driving experiences. Sunroofs are now available in 12 out of 14 models in HMIL’s lineup, a clear indicator of Hyundai’s effort to democratise luxury features across segments.
Hyundai’s SUV lineup drives growth
The surge in SUV sales is attributed to Hyundai’s diverse and feature-rich portfolio, which includes crowd favourites like the Hyundai EXTER, VENUE, CRETA, ALCAZAR, TUCSON, and the all-electric IONIQ 5. The increasing demand for these models highlights Hyundai’s sharp focus on combining style, safety, and technology in a package tailored to the Indian consumer.
“FY2024- 25 has been a landmark year for Hyundai Motor India,” said Mr. Tarun Garg, Whole-Time Director and Chief Operating Officer, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. “The fact that two out of every third vehicle sold by us in India was an SUV is a testament to our deep understanding of Indian customers and our commitment to delivering innovation, safety and style.”
ADAS is gaining popularity across segments
The adoption of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) has seen a remarkable upswing as well. ADAS-equipped variants contributed 14.3% of overall sales in FY2024- 25, more than doubling from 6.7% in FY2023- 24. Hyundai currently offers ADAS in 9 of its models, reaffirming its commitment to advanced safety and global technologies tailored for Indian road conditions.
“The doubling of ADAS variant contribution and growing popularity of sunroof-equipped models reflect the rising aspirations of our customers and their readiness to embrace global technologies,” added Mr Tarun Garg.
Wide powertrain and transmission choices strengthen Hyundai’s appeal
HMIL continues to lead the charge in offering customers a comprehensive range of powertrains and transmission options, ensuring a vehicle for every kind of driver. From Petrol, Diesel, Turbo Petrol, and CNG to Electric vehicles, Hyundai’s lineup caters to varied driving needs. Transmission choices include manual, iVT, AMT, AT, and DCT options, ensuring performance meets convenience across all segments.
Future-ready, feature-rich, India-centric
This growth trajectory reflects Hyundai’s strategic approach to localising global technologies and listening closely to the Indian consumer. With premium features like sunroofs, cutting-edge safety tech like ADAS, and a robust SUV portfolio, Hyundai is not only delivering what Indian buyers want but also setting benchmarks for the industry.
As FY2024- 25 wraps up, Hyundai Motor India has clearly established itself not just as a volume player but as a brand that defines modern mobility aspirations in India. The road ahead looks bright, panoramic, and possibly sunroof-equipped.
