Lexus has officially pulled the wraps off the eighth-generation 2026 Lexus ES at the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, ushering in a new era for its iconic luxury sedan with an electrified twist and a fresh design philosophy inspired by the futuristic LF-ZC concept.

For the first time in its history, the ES becomes a multi-platform model, offering both hybrid (HEV) and battery electric (BEV) powertrains. Built on a reengineered TNGA GA-K platform, the new ES is available in front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations, broadening its appeal across global markets. The announcement marks a significant milestone for Lexus’ ongoing “Lexus Electrified” strategy, aiming to offer a diverse lineup of HEVs, PHEVs, and BEVs by 2026.

Design

The exterior design embodies a seamless blend of minimalism and emotion under the brand’s new “Clean Tech x Elegance” design language. Drawing inspiration from the next-gen BEV LF-ZC concept, the 2026 ES features bold proportions, a flowing trunkless profile, and the evolution of the Lexus signature spindle body, delivering a sleek, grounded, and unmistakably modern look.

A new Twin L-Signature Lamp setup at the front and rear enhances both brand identity and visibility, while precise millimetre-level adjustments to tire positioning and body tapering create a wide and low stance, emphasising performance and poise.

Interior

Inside, the 2026 ES is engineered to elevate every journey. The cabin is now longer by 6.5 inches with a 3-inch longer wheelbase, offering increased space and a refined sense of openness. Premium design touches include Bamboo Layering, Synthetic Leather Embossing, and the Thematic Ambient Illumination, creating a luxurious yet clean interior atmosphere.

Rear passengers will enjoy new levels of comfort with the Executive Package — featuring reclining seats, massagers, ottomans, and advanced climate control.

The driver-focused Tazuna cockpit debuts with a 12.3-inch multi-information display, 14-inch touchscreen, and a more intuitive Lexus Interface multimedia system, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and dual Bluetooth® connectivity.

Powertrain

The 2026 ES lineup will include the ES 350h, featuring an evolved 2.5-litre hybrid engine with optional AWD, and two BEV variants — the ES 350e (FWD) and the ES 500e (AWD). The ES 500e gets the advanced DIRECT4 all-wheel drive system, which intelligently distributes torque for improved traction, acceleration, and handling.

The ES 350e is estimated to deliver a range of 685 kilometres on a full charge with 19-inch wheels, signalling Lexus’ intent to compete seriously in the luxury EV space.

Safety Features

The new ES is also the first model to feature Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 (LSS+ 4.0), incorporating improved sensors, enhanced hazard detection, and next-gen driver assistance technologies, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to safety as a core pillar.

The 2026 ES is the second of three BEV models Lexus plans to unveil before March 2026. With this launch, Lexus not only reinforces its legacy of comfort and elegance but also stakes a bold claim in the future of electrified mobility. Additional details, including pricing and market availability, are expected to be revealed closer to the model’s official launch next year.
