Breitling has unveiled the new Top Time B01 Eddy Merckx, a limited-edition chronograph created to honour one of the greatest cyclists in history. Inspired by Belgian racing icon Eddy Merckx and his extraordinary record of 525 professional victories, the latest addition to the Top Time collection combines Swiss watchmaking excellence with a design that celebrates speed, endurance, and sporting heritage. The launch continues Breitling’s long-standing relationship with cycling while adding another distinctive model to its growing line of motorsport and sports-inspired chronographs.

A TRIBUTE TO AN UNMATCHED SPORTING LEGACY

Few athletes have left a mark on their sport like Eddy Merckx. During his dominant career from the late 1960s through the mid-1970s, Merckx amassed an incredible 525 victories, including five Tour de France titles, 11 Grand Tour victories, 19 Monument classics, three World Championship wins, and a record 96 days wearing the yellow jersey. Breitling designed this special edition to celebrate those achievements while recognising the determination, ambition, and relentless competitive spirit that made Merckx one of cycling’s greatest champions.

VINTAGE-INSPIRED DESIGN WITH MODERN DETAILS

The Top Time collection has always been known for its bold and youthful styling, and the Eddy Merckx edition continues that tradition. The watch features a vibrant yellow dial inspired by cycling’s famous yellow jersey, paired with contrasting silver chronograph counters in Breitling’s signature “squircle” design. Merckx’s signature is positioned at the six o’clock marker, while the transparent sapphire caseback carries the engraving “One of 525”, symbolising his historic number of victories. Buyers can choose between a perforated black leather racing strap or a premium stainless-steel mesh bracelet, both complementing the watch’s retro-inspired appearance.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE SWISS ENGINEERING

Powering the chronograph is Breitling’s in-house Manufacture Caliber B01, a COSC-certified automatic movement renowned for its precision and reliability. Housed in a 41mm stainless-steel case, the movement delivers approximately 70 hours of power reserve and features a column-wheel chronograph with a vertical clutch mechanism. Additional highlights include a fixed tachymeter bezel, mushroom-style pushers for smooth operation, glare-proof sapphire crystal on both sides, and water resistance of up to 100 metres, making it suitable for everyday wear while maintaining luxury timepiece standards.

CONTINUING BREITLING’S CYCLING HERITAGE

Breitling’s connection with cycling stretches back more than a century. The company produced precision stopwatches for cyclists during the late 19th century and later developed official race timing equipment for cycling competitions in the 1930s. The Top Time B01 Eddy Merckx carries that legacy forward by blending historic inspiration with contemporary craftsmanship. It follows the successful Top Time editions dedicated to cycling legends Fausto Coppi and Gino Bartali, further strengthening Breitling’s association with one of the world’s most demanding sports.

A COLLECTOR’S WATCH WITH TIMELESS APPEAL

The Breitling Top Time B01 Eddy Merckx is more than just a luxury chronograph—it is a celebration of sporting greatness. Combining exclusive design details, premium Swiss engineering, and a story rooted in cycling history, the limited-edition watch is expected to appeal to collectors, watch enthusiasts, and fans of motorsport-inspired timepieces alike. With its distinctive appearance and tribute to one of sport’s greatest records, the latest Top Time edition transforms Merckx’s legendary achievements into a wearable symbol of precision, performance, and enduring style.
