Gordon Murray Special Vehicles has revealed the new S1 supercar at The Quail during Monterey Car Week. Developed from the S1 LM platform, the S1 takes a more touring-focused approach, combining a naturally aspirated V12 engine, a six-speed manual gearbox and a refined cabin. Production will be limited to just 64 cars worldwide, with pricing remaining undisclosed.

GORDON MURRAY S1 ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The S1 is powered by a bespoke 4.2-litre naturally aspirated Cosworth V12 producing up to 680.56bhp at a remarkable 12,100rpm. The engine uses lightweight competition-spec components, including titanium valves and connecting rods, silicon carbide-coated pistons and a dry-sump lubrication system.

Unlike many modern performance cars, the S1 uses a six-speed manual gearbox with a touring sixth gear as standard. Revised gearbox cable routing is intended to provide a precise shift feel and maintain the physical connection between the driver and the car.

GORDON MURRAY S1 DESIGN AND AERODYNAMICS

The S1 shares its design DNA with the S1 LM, but every exterior body panel has been redesigned. The large fixed rear wing, long front splitter and deep side skirts of the S1 LM have been removed, resulting in a cleaner silhouette inspired by classic proportions.

A new active rear aero system is integrated into the bodywork to assist high-speed stability and braking. The car focuses on mechanical grip, balance and road-going confidence rather than extreme downforce.

S1 GETS REVISED SUSPENSION AND LIGHTWEIGHT CONSTRUCTION

The S1 retains the S1 LM’s lightweight suspension architecture, width, track and wider tyres. Its ride height has been increased by 10mm, while revised damping adds greater compliance without sacrificing steering precision, agility or feedback.

Lightweight carbon-fibre body panels and suspension components remain central to the S1’s construction. Gordon Murray says the target overall weight is below that of the T.50 despite the S1 receiving additional cabin luxury, acoustic refinement and a more sophisticated audio system.

GORDON MURRAY S1 INTERIOR AND PRODUCTION

The three-seat cabin retains Gordon Murray’s signature central driving position while adding a more luxurious touring character. Premium leather, bespoke fabrics, improved seat comfort, enhanced acoustic insulation, revised infotainment screens and a lightweight bespoke audio system are included.

The S1 also gets new dihedral doors with integrated drop-down glass, providing wider openings and making entry and exit easier. Production is restricted to 64 units globally, with every car individually commissioned and specified by its owner.

IMPLICATIONS

The Gordon Murray S1 combines a high-revving naturally aspirated V12, manual transmission, lightweight construction and active aerodynamics with a more comfortable touring character. With only 64 examples planned worldwide, it continues Gordon Murray’s focus on analogue, driver-focused and highly exclusive performance cars.
