Porsche will officially debut the Cayenne Electric in India on September 30. The electric SUV was launched in India last year with prices starting at Rs 1.76 crore (ex-showroom) and is available in Cayenne Electric and Cayenne Turbo Electric variants.

PORSCHE CAYENNE ELECTRIC BATTERY AND RANGE

The Porsche Cayenne Electric gets a 113kWh battery pack paired with dual electric motors and all-wheel drive. The standard Cayenne Electric produces 408hp and 835Nm, while the more powerful Cayenne Turbo Electric develops 1,156.08bhp and 1,150Nm.

The standard Cayenne Electric can accelerate from 0-100kph in 4.8 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 230kph. Its claimed range stands at 642km. The Turbo Electric is capable of 0-100kph in just 2.5 seconds, has a 260kph top speed and offers a claimed range of 623km.

Both variants get adaptive air suspension as standard, while rear-axle steering is available as an option. The Cayenne Electric can recover energy through regenerative braking at a rate of up to 600kW, with Porsche claiming that up to 97 percent of braking can be handled by the electric motors.

PORSCHE CAYENNE ELECTRIC WIRELESS CHARGING

The Cayenne Electric is the first Porsche to be offered with an optional 11kW wireless charging system. The SUV uses regenerative braking to recover energy, with the maximum recuperation rate depending on factors such as vehicle speed, temperature and battery charge level.

PORSCHE CAYENNE ELECTRIC EXTERIOR DESIGN

The Porsche Cayenne Electric retains the familiar overall silhouette of the combustion-engined Cayenne but gets a revised front-end design. It features a blanked-off grille with air vents on either side of the bumper to cool the battery and electrical components, along with active aerodynamic vents lower down.

The electric SUV gets gloss-black lower cladding and 20- to 22-inch alloy wheel options. At the rear, it features a full-width LED light bar with illuminated Porsche lettering and a black bumper with horizontal elements. The Turbo Electric gets a body-coloured skid plate, while the standard version uses an all-black finish.

At 4,985mm long, the Cayenne Electric is 55mm longer than the combustion-engined Cayenne and has a 3,023mm wheelbase. It is 1,980mm wide and 1,674mm tall. Porsche also quotes a 90-litre frunk and a 781-litre boot, which can expand to 1,588 litres with the powered rear seats folded.

PORSCHE CAYENNE ELECTRIC INTERIOR AND FEATURES

Inside, the Cayenne Electric gets a digital driver’s display and a 14.5-inch curved infotainment touchscreen, marking a first for a Porsche model in India. An optional 14.9-inch passenger display and an augmented-reality head-up display are also available.

Other equipment includes eight-way electrically adjustable front seats, with up to 18-way adjustment available as an option, along with four-zone automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof and wireless phone charging.

A 14-speaker Bose sound system is offered as standard, while buyers can opt for a 20-speaker Harman Kardon system.

The Porsche Cayenne Electric will rival other premium electric SUVs in India, including the Audi Q8 e-tron, BMW iX and Lotus Eletre.

With its India debut scheduled for September 30, the Porsche Cayenne Electric will expand the brand’s electric SUV line-up in the country. With a 113kWh battery, up to 642km of claimed range and as much as 1,156hp in the Turbo Electric, it combines the Cayenne’s SUV format with Porsche’s high-performance electric powertrain technology.
