Hyundai Motor India has officially announced the name of its much-awaited upcoming SUV — Hyundai BAYON. The new global SUV marks the beginning of a new chapter for Hyundai in India and will join the company’s strong and growing SUV portfolio. The announcement was made on September 14, 2026, from Gurugram. 

Positioned around the idea of intelligent mobility, the Hyundai BAYON has been developed for an evolving generation of Indian customers. Hyundai says the new SUV combines innovation, expression and emotion with a clear sense of purpose. It will also reflect the company’s global design and product philosophy while focusing on delivering an intelligent and intuitive customer experience. 

Commenting on the name reveal, Tarun Garg, Managing Director & CEO of Hyundai Motor India, said that BAYON represents more than just a new SUV and reflects Hyundai’s ambition to create intelligent, intuitive and meaningful mobility experiences. He added that the company has focused on integrating technology seamlessly into everyday life and will reveal more details about the SUV in the coming weeks. 

Hyundai BAYON Name Inspired by Bayonne

The name BAYON draws inspiration from Bayonne, a city in France’s Basque Country known for its distinctive character and dynamic spirit. According to Hyundai, the name reflects the brand’s global design philosophy while representing the arrival of a new SUV created for an evolving India. It is also associated with a sense of exhilaration and a new spirit of adventure. 

Hyundai has also released a futuristic name reveal film for the upcoming SUV. The film depicts a next-generation laboratory where intelligent elements come together to form the BAYON name, symbolising Hyundai’s approach to design, technology and innovation. It concludes with the message “Intelligence ON.”

The name announcement is only the first chapter of the Hyundai BAYON journey. Hyundai Motor India has confirmed that more details about the upcoming intelligent SUV will be revealed in the coming days, building anticipation around its design, technology, features and positioning in the Indian market.
