Mahindra has launched the new Thar OG in India, bringing a major update to its three-door lifestyle SUV while retaining the rugged character associated with the Thar nameplate. The new model is priced from ₹10.32 lakh (ex-showroom), with deliveries scheduled to begin from October 11, 2026. The introductory prices are applicable to deliveries until November 30, 2026. 

The Thar OG is based on Mahindra’s new M_Glyde 4G platform, which features increased stiffness and is designed to improve both on-road refinement and off-road capability. The SUV gets a rear PENTALINK suspension with Watts Link, while DAVINCI Damping technology with Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD) is claimed to enhance ride comfort. Electric Power Steering and improved NVH damping are also part of the package. 

More Powerful Engine Options

Mahindra has upgraded the power output of two of the Thar OG’s powertrains. The 2.0-litre G20 TGDi mStallion petrol engine produces 119kW and 330Nm, while the 2.2-litre D22 mHawk diesel develops 111.9kW and 330Nm. The D117 CRDe diesel continues with 87.2kW and 300Nm. The SUV is offered with both rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations, depending on the variant and engine. 

For off-road driving, the Thar OG gets an Electronic Locking Differential and dedicated Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes on 4WD variants. These systems are designed to optimise vehicle performance across different surfaces. 

Updated Design and Safety Features

Visually, the Thar OG receives a redesigned grille, LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs, LED fog lamps with cornering functionality, new taillamps and R19 alloy wheels. Inside, it gets Truffle Brown leatherette seats, a second-row armrest with cupholder and additional convenience features. Two new exterior colours—Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue—join six existing options. 

Safety equipment includes six airbags, including four HPTS airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, ESP 9.3 and front parking sensors. Higher variants also receive a rear-view camera, tyre-pressure monitoring system and additional technology features. 

The Thar OG is available in AXT, LXT and ZXT variants, with prices extending up to ₹18.99 lakh (ex-showroom)depending on the engine, transmission and drivetrain.
