BMW Motorrad has presented the new BMW F 450 R, a lightweight and sporty naked motorcycle developed for the 48 bhp class. Joining the BMW F 450 model family, the new road-focused motorcycle combines an agile chassis, a newly developed parallel-twin engine and advanced rider assistance systems. Inspired by the design language of the flagship BMW S 1000 R, the F 450 R brings a distinctive sporty character to the compact naked motorcycle segment.

Designed for A2 licence holders, returning riders and motorcycling enthusiasts, the BMW F 450 R focuses on accessibility, precise handling and everyday usability. With a ready-to-ride weight of 175 kg, the motorcycle aims to deliver an engaging riding experience across urban roads, highways and winding country routes.
BMW F 450 R: Engine and Performance
Powering the new BMW F 450 R is a liquid-cooled, 420 cc parallel-twin engine featuring a distinctive 135-degree crankpin offset. The engine produces 35 kW (48 bhp) at 8,750 rpm and develops 43 Nm of maximum torque at 6,750 rpm. BMW Motorrad states that 80% of the available torque is accessible from as low as 3,000 rpm, supporting acceleration and roll-on performance at lower engine speeds.

The engine features a counter-rotating balance shaft to reduce vibrations, while the 135-degree crankpin offset contributes to its distinctive exhaust note. A stainless-steel underfloor exhaust system further enhances the motorcycle’s character and helps optimise weight distribution.

The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and a chain-driven final transmission. Shift Assistant Pro, available as standard on all variants except the Base model, enables clutchless upshifts and downshifts. The optional Easy Ride Clutch (ERC) automatically engages according to engine speed, allowing riders to pull away and change gears without manual clutch operation when combined with Shift Assistant Pro.

The motorcycle complies with Euro 5+ emission standards and has a claimed fuel consumption of 3.8 litres per 100 km. Its 14-litre fuel tank offers a claimed riding range of more than 350 km.
Sporty Design and Road-Focused Chassis
The BMW F 450 R adopts a muscular naked-bike design inspired by the BMW S 1000 R. Its distinctive side panels, sculpted tank covers, compact proportions and signature LED headlight with bracket-shaped daytime running lights establish its sporty identity.

Underneath, the motorcycle features a tubular steel space frame with the engine integrated as a load-bearing element. The road-focused chassis is equipped with a 43 mm KYB upside-down front fork and an aluminium double-sided swingarm paired with a KYB rear monoshock. The optional Sport Suspension offers adjustable rebound and compression damping at the front, along with adjustable rear suspension settings.

The F 450 R rides on 17-inch cast-aluminium wheels, with 110/70-17 front and 150/60-17 rear tyres. Braking is handled by a 310 mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston monobloc calliper and a 240 mm rear disc with a ByBre single-piston calliper.
Advanced Safety and Connectivity
BMW Motorrad equips the F 450 R with three standard riding modes: Rain, Road and Dynamic. The motorcycle also features ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and engine drag torque control (MSR). The optional Riding Modes Pro package adds a configurable Dynamic Pro mode.

Technology highlights include a 6.5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, smartphone integration and turn-by-turn navigation through the BMW Motorrad Connected App. The motorcycle also features full LED lighting, a USB-C charging port and standard heated grips.
Four Variants of the BMW F 450 R
BMW Motorrad will offer the F 450 R in four equipment variants: Base, Exclusive, M Sport and M Sport with Innovation Package. The Base variant comes in Cosmic Black, while the M Sport versions feature Snaefell White and M Motorsport-inspired detailing.

The Exclusive variant adds Shift Assistant Pro and Sport Suspension, while the M Sport versions include Riding Modes Pro and additional sporty styling elements. The Innovation Package further introduces the Easy Ride Clutch.

With its combination of lightweight construction, accessible performance, advanced safety technology and customisation options, the BMW F 450 R expands BMW Motorrad’s naked-bike portfolio in the 48 bhp class.
