Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has revealed the performance philosophy of the upcoming Hyundai BAYON, ahead of its scheduled India launch on October 26, 2026. The new Intelligent Utility Vehicle (IUV) combines a proven 1.5-litre petrol engine with intelligent transmission technologies and driver-focused features designed to deliver a refined and responsive driving experience. Bookings are now open through authorised Hyundai dealerships and the company’s official website.
Hyundai BAYON: Engine and Performance
The Hyundai BAYON is powered by a four-cylinder, 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine producing 115 PS of maximum power and 143.8 Nm of peak torque. Customers can choose between a six-speed manual transmission (6MT) and an Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT), offering flexibility for different driving preferences.
The engine has an established presence in Hyundai’s Indian portfolio. Since 2020, HMIL has sold more than six lakh vehicles equipped with this powertrain, reflecting its established customer acceptance and reputation for everyday usability. The BAYON is engineered to deliver smooth performance across urban commutes and highway journeys.
Intelligent Transmission and Driving Technologies
The Hyundai BAYON’s Intelligent Variable Transmission brings additional technologies designed to improve responsiveness and driver engagement. Dash Boost Mode provides an instant power boost when quicker acceleration is required, particularly during overtaking manoeuvres.
Sporty Drive Tech is designed to deliver a more engaging acceleration experience, while steering-mounted paddle shifters allow drivers to control transmission response conveniently. These features aim to make everyday driving more intuitive without compromising the vehicle’s focus on refinement.
The SUV also offers three selectable driving modes: Eco, Normal and Sport. Eco Mode prioritises fuel efficiency, Normal Mode balances performance and efficiency, and Sport Mode provides a more responsive driving experience. Drivers can switch between these settings using the steering-mounted Drive Mode button.
